When Peter Macy found out he had an adrenal tumor there was a silver lining. Dr. Sanziana Roman had just been recruited by UCSF and started working a week before his diagnosis. The endocrine surgeon specialized in removing this rare tumor. Today Macy is healthy and back to running the trails near his home in Marin.

Dr. Sanziana Roman, Professor of Surgery and Dr. Elizabeth Ozer, Professor of Pediatrics, and Director of the Faculty Equity Advisors program in the Office of Diversity and Outreach, are the recipients of the UCOP "Advancing Faculty Diversity, Improved Climate and Retention" award of $225,000 through President Napolitano's allocation to improve campus climate and retain our faculty for 2020-2022. UCSF endocrine surgeon Sanziana A. Roman, M.D., FACS, was the organizer of a symposium centered on the experiences of women surgeons from around the world. In an article published in the December 2018 edition of the World Journal of Surgery, seven women surgeons drawn from diverse geographical backgrounds recounted their personal stories told in compelling narratives. The Department of Surgery welcomes endocrine surgeon Sanziana A. Roman, M.D., FACS to the faculty as a professor of Surgery in the Section of Endocrine Surgery, Division of General Surgery.
